F.F.F (Fake Final Fantasy)

A personal project I did to test my skills and develop a turn-based battle game, a style that I highly appreciate!

Presentation

This project was my first "serious" project. I wanted to test some UI features and reproduce games that marked my childhood like Grandia or Final Fantasy. Hence the name: F.F.F stands for Fake Final Fantasy!

At the time I didn't have the required skills to create my own characters so I bought some on Unity Asset Store and focused on the Game Play. I wanted to retrieve the feeling I had when playing FF7 with monsters attacking you even though you didn't chose your next move. The game is overall difficult (even in easy mode). The hardest level allows AI to focus on your weakest hero.

Game Play

Key Highlights

  • Fast-Pace: This demo has been designed & developed in 4 weeks.
  • Shading: I particularly enjoy "Tales Of" series so I decided to use a "Cartoon" shader, to give this anime-look.
  • Real Time: Even though I call it Turn-based, it's more like FF ATB system.
  • Skills & Stats: Each Hero has their own skills set and stats, allowing Player to use different strategies depending on their opponents.
  • UI: ATB were displayed as a filling gauge to let player knows when their turn will be.

This game was a personal challenge where I aimed to incorporate everything I had learned into a small demo. I even shared the development process on my social networks, actively seeking feedback from my followers.
